Parenting Beyond the Bans - Raising Brave & Empathetic Kids in Restrictive Times
September 22, 2025, 5-6:30 pm PT | 8-9:30 pm ET - VIRTUAL
Why Now:
As book bans spread, curriculum on race, gender, and justice disappears, and children face rising fear from school shootings, ICE presence, and targeted bullying, parents are left asking: How do I keep my kids safe, grounded, and compassionate in this climate?
This 1.5-hour workshop offers parents, guardians, and caregivers practical tools and values-based strategies to raise children who are both protected and prepared to care for others—without relying on fear, silence, or punishment.
🌱 Together we will explore:
How to talk to kids about safety and justice in age-appropriate ways
Supporting children’s fears around violence, raids, and hate while reinforcing resilience and empathy
Every day practices to resist lies and miseducation when schools erase history and identities
How to nurture children as co-conspirators: kids who know how to support their peers, neighbors, and communities
🌱 Who It’s For:
Parents/guardians raising school-aged children in this time of bans, censorship, and growing authoritarianism
Caregivers who want their homes to be places of truth, safety, and affirmation—especially for children who are Black, Brown, immigrant, undocumented, queer, or trans, and their peers
Community members committed to creating safe, affirming homes and neighborhoods for all children
🌱 What You’ll Leave With:
Conversation scripts for addressing fear, violence, and miseducation with your kids
Practical tools for raising justice-minded children at home
A values framework for helping kids feel safe and connected, while preparing them to care for others
